The Lavender Seal is a living list of Vermont businesses, organizations, and community spaces that actively support queer and marginalized people.

It’s a physical sticker — but one that must be earned through demonstrated solidarity. It signals that a space has made a public, ongoing commitment to inclusion, care, and collective safety.

If your space is ready to take that step, email us to request a packet — or connect with one of our folks in the field. We’d love to talk.

THE LAVENDER SEAL

VT- JBGC

Accountability is not optional. Community safety is not negotiable.

The Lavender Seal is a new community accountability initiative developed under the guidance of the Red Harvest Network — the Mutual Aid, Charity Outreach, and Resource-Building faction within the Vermont chapter of the John Brown Gun Club.

In a time when queer lives are under attack — and rainbow branding is used to mask harmful affiliations — we need more than performative allyship. We need real accountability.

Lavender Seal Expectations

We reject the idea that safety is something handed down from above—it is something we build together, brick by brick, round by round.

To apply, simply fill out the intake form included in the packet and email us when it’s complete. One of our members will personally come by to pick it up and connect with you directly.

Approved spaces receive a physical Lavender Seal window sticker to display and will be listed as verified allies on our website and in the community Discord.

If your space is ready to take that step, email us to request a packet — or connect with one of our folks in the field. We’d love to talk.

To be considered for the Lavender Seal, your space should be able to demonstrate the following:

1. Visible LGBTQ+ Support (Required)
– Year-round signage, posted statements, or visible affirmations
– Inclusive language across your space and online presence
– Accessibility and openness to queer and trans community members

2. Inclusive Staffing Practices (Required)
– Staff training on LGBTQ+ inclusion and respectful service
– Clear protocols for addressing misgendering, harassment, or discrimination
– A designated contact person or manager trained to handle concerns

3. Anti-Discrimination Policy (Required)
– A written, visible anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policy
– Policy must be actively enforced and communicated to staff and customers

4. Community Support (At least one is expected)
– Hosting or supporting queer-focused events or initiatives
– Donations, partnerships, or mutual aid contributions to LGBTQ+ orgs
– Willingness to offer space, resources, or services that benefit the community

5. Ethical Affiliations (Required)
– No known support for police foundations, anti-LGBTQ+ politicians, or hate groups
– Willingness to share political donations or affiliations upon request

You don’t have to check every box perfectly — but these are the key areas we assess to determine alignment. If something is in progress, we’re happy to have a conversation. This is about building trust, not perfection.

When our propagandists, promoters, and literature distributors are out in the community making new connections, they’ll have Lavender Seal packets on hand for anyone interested in applying.
