The John Brown Gun Club is a decentralized network of local groups across the U.S., committed to community defense, mutual aid, and direct action within the bounds of the law. Each chapter operates independently, shaped by the needs of its community, but all stand united in anti-fascism and solidarity.
Inspired by abolitionist John Brown, we oppose white supremacy, far-right violence, and systemic neglect. From holding the line at State Capitol protests to safeguarding drag events, our chapters have a history of showing up with purpose when our communities are under threat.

We believe safety comes from strong, prepared communities—not state institutions alone. Through legal education, skill-building, and mutual aid, we empower marginalized people to take an active role in their own protection.
JBGC is not a militia and not just a club—it’s a commitment to solidarity, autonomy, and collective care.
The State Wont Save Us
So We Stand Together
The Vermont chapter of the John Brown Gun Club was founded in response to the rising threat of far-right violence, state-backed oppression, and systemic abandonment of marginalized communities. As reactionary forces arm themselves to suppress and silence, we refuse to be left defenseless.

We are a working-class, LGBTQ-led, proletarian feminist organization committed to collective self-defense—not as a tool of provocation, but as a necessity of survival. We believe in the power of mutual aid, direct action, and solidarity over state dependence. We train, educate, and build community resilience—always within Vermont law—because the state has made its priorities clear.

Our safety will not be handed to us. It is built, together, by the people.
